Paris
In this area used to be a gypsum quarry that was filled with waste from Haussmann’s big public works. The hill was then stabilized with some plantations and ended up as a small wooded area. In 1908, a co-operative called «the countryside within Paris» bought the field, and built little houses so its lower class employees could have access to the property. In just a few years, a hundred houses were erected on the hill, and it has never changed since. Do not hesitate to walk around this unusual piece of countryside inside Paris which is unusual given its close proximity to the Périphérique Boulevard (ring road of Paris) and the noisy Mortier Boulevard.
