Paris
The Père-Lachaise cemetery opened its doors in 1806, but it was not liked by Parisians at first as it used to be out of the city and was the only cemetery which was not connected to a church. However, in 1850, Molière and Lafontaine's graves were transferred to the new cemetery and from this moment the cemetry's success was never questioned again. It became the cemetery of national glories, of the famous people of the arts and litterature, and above all, a large garden with thousands of trees.
Through the cemetery paths, you will find the graves of :
- Jean de La Fontaine (author of the famous fables)
- Molière (famous french author)
- Oscar Wilde (American writer)
- Jim Morisson (singer of the American band « The Doors »)
- Edith Piaf (French singer)
- Yves Montand y Simone Signoret (French actors, and husband and wife)
- and many others...
