Paris
Bercy Park was built on a site where there used to be old wine warehouses, and was inaugurated in autumn 2001. It is one of the largest man made parks in Paris. When it was designed, one hundred years old trees were preserved, as well as the paved paths that were originally used for the wine transportation from the Seine embankments, the Lake house, the Bercy wine store, and the Orangery. All this gives a special charm to the park where one can admire the magnificent gardens «à la française», the romantic garden (which can be identified by its ruins, its canal, and its lake), and the 26 ft (8 m) high terrace planted with trees.
In the 19th century, the wine warehouses of Paris were the largest place in the world for wine and spirits trading. The warehouses continued to be active until the fifties.
